Poetry on a May Evening

Three featured poets

If you wish, bring a poem to share

Denise Ginzler is a retired librarian who has been reading and writing all her life. She lives in Greenville, NH and is the author of One Ripple, a book of poems. She loves swimming in lakes and the ocean, and walking among trees. The house where she and her family have lived since 1984 is on a community land trust, with 100 acres of protected woodland.

Carla Desrosiers, a pharmacist by profession, enjoys writing poetry and prose in her spare time.   In the years that she has lived in the Seacoast, NH area, she has participated in many open mic poetry readings, and has been featured at more than a few.  Carla delights in performing her poetry, and has, indeed, been described as a Performance Poet.  Her poetry is humorous, clever and insightful.

Melody Zahn Russell is a  native of New Hampshire presently living in  Hancock, New Hampshire.
She is a semi-retired teacher. She began writing when her mother gave her a diary in sixth grade! Many years later poetry has become a true love. Her book, My Name is Melody.  Who Are You?  is to be printed soon by Porcupine Press.

Institute of Museum and Library Services Federal Funding

The federal government has called for defunding the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the federal agency charged with distribution of congressionally authorized funds to state libraries, museums, archive programs and local libraries.
The elimination of federal government funding will negatively affect Chamberlin Free Public Library’s patrons. Many of our patrons rely on books obtained and delivered by the state Interlibrary loan system. Last year, we processed 486 requests for books by our patrons and 948 requests by other libraries in the state for books in our library. These book requests are delivered by the State Library’s van delivery service at no cost to our patrons. Should the federal funding disappear, so would this valuable service.
Additionally, should IMLS funding be removed, severe cuts or elimination of other services will occur. IMLS funds the staff and electronic platforms for our e-book service, audio books, Talking Book for the Blind and Physically Handicapped.
If you have used, plan to use any of these services, or simply value the services offered by Chamberlin Free Public, I encourage you to contact your congressional delegation to offer your support for maintaining IMLS funding. Remember, once cut, these services will be very difficult or impossible to reinstate.
